MEET OUR TEAM

Paton J Dennison – Director

Paton J Dennison (aka PJD) is the Founding Partner of our firm.

He advises on various aspects of the law regarding Litigation, Companies, Public Procurement, Immigration, Municipalities and other Organs of state, challenging Cellphone towers, and Projects. Paton has a Masters and Bachelors degree in Law (cum laude) from the University of the Free State. Paton is also a Notary Public and has right of appearance in the High Court.

Paton graduated with an LLB degree from the University of the Free State and completed his Masters Degree in International Investment Law, Risk Management, and Private Law within a year. He immediately joined Adams & Adams attorneys (Pretoria) as a candidate and later a professional assistant in the Commercial, Property, and Litigation department. He later joined the projects and infrastructure team at Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr as an associate, whereafter he joined Nortons Inc as a senior associate.

Paton established attorneys: PJD Legal in 2015 in order to render high quality, niche services ordinarily only offered by large firms, at rates and terms accessible to SMME and individuals.

Paton has gained experience in, inter alia, the following types of matters:

  • Cellular technology: Assisting in preventing the installation of cell phone towers and securing the removal on sites within Gauteng and the Western Cape.
  • Advising on the competencies of, and compliance by, municipalities in terms of the MFMA, Municipal Property Rates Act; Municipal Systems Act, and Municipal Structures Act;
  • Advising on the compliance of tender processes to the PPPFA regulations and case law including on the establishment of public entities;
  • Advising on the Electricity Regulation Act, New Generation Capacity Regulations, etc;
  • Advising on approvals, permits, licenses, etc., necessary for the development, construction and operation of an LPG plant;
  • The Renewable Energy IPP Procurement Programme;
  • All aspects of company law including litigation before the Companies Tribunal;
  • Commercial drafting;
  • Litigation in all courts and arbitration before all forum;
  • Urgent release applications for detained foreigners.
  • Advising in white collar crime matters involving alleged corruption, asset forfeiture, human trafficking, and money laundry.

Mary Matsape Mphaga

Mary Matsape Mphaga is the CIPC Lodgment agent of our firm.

Mary has a qualification in Office Professionals MBA from the Siyanqoba Seminars, as well as a qualification in Communications from the Cornerstone HR Call Centre Training and Enhance Management Network.

Mary graduated from Ngaka Maseko High School in 2001 with an exemption. She then started at FNB Speedpoint Business Unit as a Receptionist/switchboard agent, she was promoted and given the role as Consultant Support & First Aider. She then joined Adams and Adams Attorneys as a Company Secretarial Administrator. Whereafter she joined Edward Nathan Sonnenberg’s Inc. as a Paralegal. Mary also joined the Sun International team where she worked as a Secretary, Group Environmental Manager, Development Manager, and Development Environmental Manager.

Mary has gained experience in, inter alia, the following types of matters:

  • Manage and process claim forms
  • Checks on ITC and KICS on merchants
  • Liaise with branches and CIPRO to obtain documentation for Companies and Close Corporations
  • Reviewing of commissions
  • Provided first aid in events of emergency
  • Financial Queries/ reconciling non banked transactions
  • Drafting CoR forms and preparing them for lodging at CIPC.
  • Drafting and amending special resolutions and mandate letters accordingly. Director changes (resignation and appointments of directors)
  • Attending to registration and renewal of defensive names
  • Attending to name transfers and change in applicants
  • Submissions of electronic annual returns and appointments and resignations of members of Close Corporations
  • Attending to registration of Company office searches and Close Corporations
  • Attending at the Master of the High Court for amendments of trust and ordering letters of authority

Fannie Zim

Fannie Zim is an Associate of our firm.

He advises on various aspects of the law regarding labour, civil and criminal litigation. Fannie has a bachelors degree in Law from the University of Free State. Fannie is also a Notary Public. Fannie is also a Notary Public and has right of appearance in the High Court.

Fannie graduated with an LLB from the University of Free State. Fannie joined the Public Protector as an Intern. He served his articles at Legal Aid SA as a Candidate Attorney, whereafter he joined Ngwane Associates & Attorneys as an Associate.

Thato Thobakgale

Thato Thobakgale is an Associate of our firm.

He advises on various aspects of the law regarding Commercial Law. Thato has a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Johannesburg, and a Master’s degree in Commercial law from the University of Cape Town.

Thato graduated with an LLM in Commercial Law from the University of Cape Town. He has a bachelors in Law from University of Johannesburg and is a Postgraduate LLB student also from the University of Johannesburg. During this time Thato joined various firms Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr Inc where he was an Associate, Candidate Attorney and worked in the Dispute Resolution department. He later joined Barclays Africa Group Litigation as a Secondee, whereafter he joined Samsung Electronics South Africa as their legal counsel.

Following his one year sabbatical, he joined Samsung Electronics South Africa as a Legal Counsel before [joining PJD Inc.].
